About Us
CHARVILLE ESTATES LIMITED was incorporated on 7th June 1981 with two directors David and Robert Pulford, both Chartered Surveyors, being allocated 50 shares each. The company had no assets.
Over the next 40 years Charville developed over 250,000 sq feet of new space comprising two shopping centres, two supermarkets and a total of 55 shops, 36 houses and flats and 2 community buildings. Total development costs were over £20 million.
This website records some of the events including our most memorable moment with HRH Prince Charles opening the Wharfside Shopping Centre in Penzance on 18th May 1999.

The last four decades have been an amazing roller coaster of highs and lows. The pinnacle being when HRH Prince Charles gave us the honour of opening Wharfside. The lowest being when our financiers Close Bros withdrew providing finance to E Thomas Construction 12 months into the building programme of Wharfside. SWERDA (South West Regional Development Agency) had already invested £2.9m of grant money and therefore decided to invest another £4.2m to complete the scheme.
Our philosophy was always to build high quality space in the heart of our town centres to bring people in to shop. Location was always the key to a successful project.
Both Shopping Centres were sold in January 2015 at the top of the market and since then they have both been sold on again reflecting a 25% drop in value.
We have retained income producing assets in Penzance and Norwich for our retirement.
